Description
SLB operates five world-class driver training centers globally, including one in Calgary, Alberta. Our Calgary center is distinguished as one of the few Government of Alberta accredited driver training schools in the Oil and Gas industry. The center's staff boasts a combined experience of over 50 years in delivering driver training.
We offer customized driver training to meet the specific needs of our customers, including Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT), Class 3 and Class 5 courses. Our offerings include one, two, and three-day light vehicle training, as well as specialized training for various operations. We are equipped to deliver regulatory courses such as Hours of Service, Dimensions and Weights, Cargo Securement, and Trip Inspection Criteria.
Our training program includes SLB's DriveSMARRT* techniques, covering winter driving, fatigue management, ABS/emergency braking, tire chains, pre-and post-trip requirements, cargo securement, skid control, and handling emergencies. Students will practice defensive driving theories in an SLB vehicle, with instruction on using 4x4 and performing commentary drives on paved and rural roads. Successful completion of a commentary drive in Calgary is required.
All students take the Professional Driver Improvement Course (PDIC) exam and receive hands-on training at the SLB Canada driving facility. This includes skid control training, head-on collision avoidance, shoulder drop-off maneuvers, emergency maneuvering, and animal avoidance techniques.
Successful candidates with an Alberta driver's license will receive a PDIC certificate for demerit reductions and may be eligible for an insurance reduction due to the defensive driving nature of the course.
Participants must have at least a Class 5 driver's license or its equivalent and wear corrective lenses if required.
